about

This is the first single off my upcoming LP "Short Storms and Long Rides in the Night".

This song is about the character Abbe Faria in "The Count of Monte Cristo". I wrote this song from the perspective of the protagonist Edmond Dantes when he met the priest because Dantes renewed his vigor for life by learning from the priest and went on to carry out his revenge thanks to the priest's efforts. I admire the priest for helping Dantes to reclaim his life even though he didn't agree with Dantes' intentions to kill the traitors.

lyrics

I had counted all the stones when you came out of the ground
You were searching for the sea and got lost in what you found
when through the window in my cell,
you saw the sky for the first time in years

We tunneled on and on
and I learned a lot from you
Your death left me alone
knowing what to do

I escaped through your burial,
lost in the waves
Revenge on my mind,
a treasure to claim

and I remember you,
getting lost in what you found
when through the window in my cell,
you saw the sky for the first time in years
