every now and again, you're the moon's silhouette on the sea
and I, the troubled sailor meet you with my eyes
every now and again, I am lost in the little light you are
when darkness is all around
and it's just me and you and the waves I'm sailing through
in the birth of the raindrop, I have seen the hurricane
and always knew a way to sink and swim another day
I'll make it through the bitter cold
for a light I loved and could never hold for long

Beijing

We were lighting cigarettes,
placing bets on all the fights
that were going on
We were walking in the streets
nameless dogs in the dusk
where the drunks and taxis meet
as I was tracing on the map
the path where I felt
I was lost and alone
only to master myself
all the silver and gold
I'd give to be
back on the road
that leads you back to me
we were basking in the sun
in a daydream found
on a sleepless night in Beijing
and the dawn as it approached
broke the haze and the smoke
that came from the night before
and by dawn's first light,
I leave this city behind
and the voices of the crowd
will slowly leave my mind
and I live that daydream
with you in the sun
has it finally ended
or has it just begun?

For the Eyes

song for the eyes
where have you been?
did I miss you walking in?
this was a brand new car
when we last spoke
this was a smoky bar
when we used to smoke
song for the eyes
where did I go?
I've been lost here too, you know
where I was born, that's not who I am
so why did I ever have a plan?
when to meet the demand is
as permanent as a name
written in the sandbar?
are you going any farther than here?
see, you'll never know this
but this is the closest I've felt to fear
song for the eyes
where are we now?
counting crows along the fence?
the coming storm cooled by the wind
the perfect form is so the accident
we were dancing in the rain
on a street without a name
when you remembered the lake
where you were born
and you were torn between
the places you'd been
and there
so why did I ever have a plan?
when to meet the demand is
as permanent as a name
written in the sandbar?
are you going any farther alone?
see, you'll never know this
but this is the farthest I've been from home
