Laredo by Nightfall

My neighborhood's where the old men used to hunt
So many new roads, so many old roads too
My friend's sister crashed her car here
So my friend never got a car to crash anywhere
and I used to walk alone here when I didn't know what to do
which was pretty much always
Don't get me wrong though: I'm not singing because
I know any more than I did before
I'm just a little more content
Not knowing what I don't know
I'm in Laredo by noon
Gas station breakfast getting it done
I wonder who of all my friends stuck around
Who's making it through here?
Who left and isn't planning on coming back?
Who remembers who I was
or who I tried to be?
I'm in Laredo by Nightfall, I've been missing my friends and family
New poets baring their souls, streets of Laredo new and old
People I haven't seen in a while glad to see me again
because the energy's never destroyed, it just transforms
I'm in Laredo by daybreak
Some people call it a phase
Some people call it a home
I call it the place where I began
My familiar old road paved anew
***
I'm in Laredo by 4PM
Carne asada a la casa de quien?
I want to eat till I don't know when
Who's going to show up with more food?
Who's going to ask where I've been?
Is there a border slam this week?
Who remembers who I was
or who I tried to be?

What to Stay For
03:32
|
|||
It was never about finding the words
cause I know love from obstinence
I just couldn't see myself
Telling you as me how I felt
I see myself in The Remains of the Day
Too aware to be brave
and say without thinking, how lost I get when you sing...
How lost I get when you sing
How lost I get in whatever it is to be alive
Deep down you knew my voice before I claimed it
and I saw my hesitation in your eyes
We were floating (radio on)
Hidden by the trees (rising steam)
What to stay for is what tells us we are free
to be messy, to be raw, to be wrong
When you sing, how lost I get
in whatever it is to be alive
When you look at me, I get so lost
in whatever it is to be alive

Here's Hoping
03:18
|

Here's hoping the right gods fall in love with us...
Cause I can't stay forever but I fixate like I can
Here's hoping I start over in the only moment
the only one I've really got
Here's hoping the right gods fall in love with us
Every light that remains
Every death big and small
You can feel it though it's better if you didn't
Let the fears come and go when you feel down and out
Here's hoping you remember you're never really alone
The world's more than your state of mind
When you feel the thoughts have overthrown your soul
Here's hoping you remember you're never really alone
Cause we can't stay forever but we fixate like we can
Here's hoping we start over in the only moment
the only one we've really got
Here's hoping the right gods fall in love with us
